Dear friends and supporters of Human Rights,
Last Saturday night the Artists for Human Rights exhibition was launched in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica. It was a smash opening, with tons of people in attendance. I mean, really packed! As you may know, the purpose of the show is not merely to showcase artists, but to call attention to a movement begun last year to raise awareness about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document crafted in the wake of World War II by Eleanor Roosevelt.
Human Rights, as a subject, is very critical at this time in history. Human trafficking is now a 9 BILLION dollar industry, second only to the illegal drug trade. That's only one area; you can think of others, I'm sure. By raising awareness of what Human Rights are, we can reverse this trend. The more one is educated about a problem, the more effective one can be.
So, we artists are hoping to interest you to come see our work, all of it very original and related to the theme of Human Rights, and to consider supporting Artists for Human Rights as a positive force for change. I hope that YOU will take the time to visit the James Gray Gallery at Bergamot Station to check out the show. The gallery is open daily 11 am to 6 pm, closed Sunday and Mondays.
